understanding comics

The message that the comics were trying to get across made a lot of sense and it was done in a fun way. I really enjoyed the concept that the audience should hear and feel what they read. When the comic was finishing talking about the pipe it said, “Do you hear what I’m saying? If you do, have your ears checked, because no one said a word.” This example made the whole concept click for me. The whole comic, the guy was explaining what was on the screen. He started off by saying, “And indeed this is not a pipe. This is a painting of a pipe.” This caught my interest because what he was saying made a lot of sense but most people do not think of it that way. After this was said he went on in a similar pattern but with the same point. Good design can make the audience think out side the box.

objectified

Objectified is a documentary which goes into detail about everyday objects and the process of designing them. The documentary goes through the process from start to finish of invention. It displays the sketching and brain storming process. Some innovations were done by groups while others were done individually. The documentary explained different types of successful design. For example the video discussed how some successful designs only look appealing and are fun but in long run are not stable such as the mini cooper. The video also talked about what makes a design successful according to it’s look and function.

IDEO

The IDEO video was very interesting for a few reasons. One reason why I thought the video was interesting was because of the people. Obviously their job requires lots of creativity but I thought it was interesting that the people were all different. They all had different backgrounds in schooling and majored in different things but all shared this interest of innovation. Another cool concept from the video was the fun. Each person who worked at IDEO seemed to love their job. I also really enjoyed how they used their office space. Each person could literally do what they wanted with designing their own space. For example the bike hanging from the ceiling. This fun and free atmosphere not only made IDEO a great place to work but made each team member work extremely well together. Organized chaos would accurately describe IDEO’s work process. I cannot think of a more successful way to do the job that they are required to do. I feel like chaos is needed within innovation and IDEO is a perfect example of this.

Process book

After being almost finished with my part in the groups poster, I have been focusing on my process book. I am going with the same color scheme of the poster which is yellow and black. I will also be adding in a little bit of gray to surround most of the text. The gray will act as a text box. I also added a design from the poster of the new object onto the cover page.

Poster photo

So far this is what we have done for the poster for our group project. It still has a long way to go. I am planning on making the yellow bars black with white font on the names to make it less distracting. also on the right side there will be an image of the new prototype once we are fully done designing it.
