Parts of a letter

Typography and hand writing are extremely similar. Obviously typography came from handwriting therefore both would hold similar characteristics. Handwriting is an act of making simple marks by hand. Each letter from the alphabet has a distinct meaning and use. Typography uses this method but expands it. Typography allows letters and words to just not only be a word with a definition, it allows words to display their meaning visually. Vocabulary is key with typography. The words should portray its meaning with the arrangement of such letters as well as how each letter is constructed. To create such letters and words there are many techniques in which to do so. Each letter has certain characteristics which may be altered to change the meaning but keep the shape such as the serif and bracket. The serif is the short strokes that finish off the letter form. A bracket is a curving point between the serif and the stroke.
